Is Having Irregular Bowel Motion With Mucus Normal After Starting Chemotherapy?
I am currently being treated with TCH after a partial mastectomy in May. I have treatment every 3 weeks and they started in June. I have not had a normal BM since starting chemo and I noticed today there was a lot of mucus in my stool and floating on top. Is this normal?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Hi. Noted that your have undergone partial mastectomy for cancer of breast followed by TCH chemotherapy every 3 weeks started in June. Since the start of the chemotherapy, you are getting abnormal bowel movements, today was lots of mucus. Chemotherpy mainly acts on the cancer cells but also acts on all the normal cells of the body including the intestines and hence you are getting this problem. Now the problem lies in the fact that you will have to continue on till the completion of the course. Please get a confirmation with your Oncologist and get a remedy for this if there is a recent advancement. Take plenty of oral fluids, fruits and multivitamins. You will be fine after chemotherapy is stopped.
