Is General Anesthesia Advisable When With Heart Palpitations?

I have frequent heart palpitations along with circulation problems. I m having four wisdom teeth extracted next friday and I will also be on my menstrual period. I ll be being put under on general anesthesia and I m worried that I might have a heart attack or something while under or afterwards. I m a 19 year old female. What are the chances of this happening?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Heart palpitation can be due to sometimes excess anxiety as well. So you need to investigate first with 2D echocardiography for further workup.

If no cardiac disease present than you may need not to worry about tooth extraction under general anesthesia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
