Is Gallbladder Removal An Option For Diagnosis Of Multiple Gallstones And Bile Duct Blockage?

Hi, I am a 64 year old woman who is 5 6 tall and weighs 213 lbs. I have always had very good health. Just recently, I have been diagnosed with several large acoustically shadowing gallstones as well as bile duct blockage. According to the symptoms, or lack thereof, I feel sure the blockage has corrected itself. My urine and stool are back to the colors they are supposed to be. The remaining symptoms are nausea, gas and severe itching. I was told that the itching was caused by a high enzyme count (ALP 539, ALT 330 and AST 166). The liver is showing intrahepatic biliary ductal dilation, and the pancreas is dilated measuring as much as 3 mm in diameter. My question is whether or not I should have the gallbladder removed, which is what the doctor is suggesting. Please help. I see a surgeon this coming Tuesday.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

First of all You should have ERCP procedure to remove the stone from bile ducts. Itching is caused by jaundice. As a second step of treatment gallbladder should be removed. Please consult gastrologist at first.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Grzegorz Stanko, General Surgeon
