Is Gall Bladder Removal Advisable If Its Not Cancerous?
Good Afternoon, My sister in laws doctor wants her to have Microwave Ablation for her liver cancer since she has had other treatments and there is one spot left. At the same time they want to remove her Gall bladder is that necessary if it does not appear cancerous
Hello and welcome to HCM, The removal of gall bladder depends on its proximity to the cancerous focus in the liver. Liver cancers spread to the gall bladder readily thus removal of gall bladder is a preventive measure. Sometimes spread to gall bladder is not grossly apparent but micro-metastasis is present. Thus, gall bladder has to be examined microscopically after removal to look for any evidence of metastasis.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
