Is Fever And Lower Urination After Catheter Removal A Cause For Worry?
Hi, my father had his catheter removed after a week (after having kidney stone surgery). Upon removal he felt fine and was going to the wash room normally. It was not until the evening (5 hours later) that he started to develop a fever, have stinging when urinating. He was taken to the clinic where he was given micro bits for a urinary tract infection and his temperature was 39.5 celcius. He took Tylenol extra strength for this. The next morning he appeared OK. The same symptoms occurred mid day and he continues to have a high fever of 39 as well as he urinates very little. (it is now the second day father his catheter removal). Will he be OK?
Hello and welcome to HCM. As an Urologist, let me convey, his symptoms are typical of urinary infection. He'll need to have an urine routine and culture test, with blood routine, sugar, creatinine,PSA (if above 50 years),and an ultrasound scan of the abdomen. According to reports, his doctor should be able to start specific treatment, which will bring his fever under control. He should be drinking 10-12 glasses of fluids daily. You're welcome to send a copy of reports to me,for an expert opinion. Dr.Matthew J.Mangat.
