Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Extremely Fluctuating Heart Rate A Cause For Concern?
I am very fit at age 57, having cycled for years. My max HR seems to be 175. Resting is 65. I don t smoke or drink. Lately, when doing cycling training intervals at about 160-64 BPM, I get brief heart rate spikes into the 180 s that fall quickly as soon as I stop. What is causing this and should I be concerned?
The cause can be determined accurately by a cardio check. Taking an ELG, Treadmill test, and may be even a 2D echocardiography should help determine the cause; but currently I suspect a rhythm disorder.
Best wishes.
