Is Endoscopy Recommended For Pharyngeal Thrush Causing Sore Throat And Nausea?

I was just diagnosed with pharyngeal thrush (and possible esophageal thrush) yesterday, but I do not have AIDs, diabetes, Or GERD. My doctor took a throat sample to verify it is a yeast infection, and if so, she wants me to have an upper GI endoscope done as I feel terrible and besides the awful sore throat, have nausea, heartburn etc which she believes means there is yeast in the esophagus as well. Is cancer the only other possible root cause?

Hello,

Yes, its necessary to undergo endoscopy to see if its extending or it as it might affect your treatment duration.

No, cancer is not the other root cause of oral thrush. There are multiple other reasons as well like prolong use of antibiotics, radiation exposure, immunocompromised states and poor oral hygiene. I suggest you to follow your doctor as per his plan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
