Is Depression With Anxiety Normal After Undergoing Brain Surgery?

I had brain surgery 18 months ago due to cerebral trauma. I do not know the name of the procedure only that my right temporal lobe was severely damaged & that s where the procedure was applied. Ever since I have been experiencing reduced cognitive ability as well as changes in my behavior & personality (temper, depression, generalized fear & anxiety). Altered personality traits are still revealing themselves & my cognitive health is still deteriorating. I have not received any follow up care since then because I have no health insurance. I wish to know if these are degenerative conditions. Any other information I should know or be referred to would be greatly appreciated.

Dear User,
As per my knowledge and experience, post head injury and post brain surgery cognitive decline and personality changes are very common and these are not degenerative conditions. They are the the result of trauma (either by injury or surgery) to the concerned area of brain. As you probably had injury over temporal lobe which is area of brain mainly concerned with memory so I think that is the reason you are experiencing more of cognitive decline. If I were to treat such a patient I would advice cognitive remediation measures (like grain sorting, letter cancellation, etc.). If you are not terribly concerned about your other symptoms (temper, depression, etc), in my opinion there is no need for any additional medication.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
