Hi
There are two things that could have contributed to temporary increase in
serum creatinine. One is the infection of the kidneys or the
urinary tract infection. The second reason might be the immicrit (
imipenem) antibiotic that can cause elevation in creatinine level for some time.
But now that your mother's feet is swollen might be a reason to be concerned. But I would be cautious here and first look at the
serum albumin levels as low albumin levels can also cause swelling.
Diabetes can also impact kidneys and cause a condition called
diabetic nephropathy. This can also cause an increase in serum creatinine. Nevertheless routine monitoring of creatinine levels are required for your mother until creatinine is normal or stabilised.
I would recommend you to consult the
nephrologist. If the increase in creatinine is temporary, then nothing needs to be done. Or if it is due to diabetes or any other kidney related issues, the nephrologist will guide you on the way further.
Now coming to the question on whether Klebsiella is contagious. Usually the bacterial infections like klebsiella is acquired from external sources. But healthy immunocompetent people need not worry about contacting this bacteria as the normal defences of the body will defend against them.
Hope the above information helps you. Thank you very much.
