Is Cow's Milk Recommendable For A New Born Child?

Hello Doctor,

My wife has delivered a girl baby on 21-Sep. It was a normal delivery. Now the problem is mothers milk is not sufficient for the baby and milk is not secreting as sufficient for the baby. At times we are feeding the cow milk. We consulted a doctor and he prescribed some meditions(lactare) and powder(galacet) to secrete the milk more and also she is taking her diet properly by taking fruits and milk. Also she is eating couple of fried garlics everyday but it doesn't help. Please advice to increase the secretion of milk.

1. Is feeding cow milk(only when mothers milk is not sufficient) bad for baby?

2. Does the baby's immunity will afect if sufficient mothers milk is not fed to baby. Please advice.

Thanks, Siva

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hallo . Thank you for asking this question . For my patients I do not advice cows milk till they are one year old . Go for powdered milk formulas available in market . Your baby is already 6 months old . At this age baby will require extra milk also with mothers milk . So better give outside milk . About immunity - she will be better if feed well instead keep her hungry . Hope I have answered you query . For further questions please contact .
