Is Consuming Alcohol Safe While On Xanax?

my doctor had me take a .25 mg Xanax at 9am this morning for a SLT laser eye procedure. 1st and only time I ve taken this med. I feel fine. Have plans this evening for a game night with the girls. May I drink a glass or two of wine? Or does the Xanax this morning prohibit that?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I understand your concern and the situation.
Since benzodiazpines like Xanax (Alprazolam) depress the functions of central nervous system (brain), consuming alcohol or alcohol containing beverages along with Xanax can increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, impairment in thinking & Judgment. Since the effects of Xanax may persist for 12-18 hours, hence you should avoid the use of alcohol or its beverages while being treated with Xanax. Hope this could be useful to you.
A feed back is appreciated.
