Is Cholecystectomy Advisable For Multiple Cysts In Gallbladder?

interferon remission for hep C 3 and a half years ago. 6 month ultrasound follow up since. Last was perfect according to my vets liver doc. Took the last US a few days ago and the bottom line is that the radiologist diagnostic code was Significant Abnormalities . Multiple polyps in my gallbladder neck, focal fatty sparing seen in the gallbladder fossa. No masses evident. Largest cyst or polyp is 5.5. The medical community is all over the place on when to resect the gallbladder. A few say 6mm take it out. Most use 10mm. Since this has all come on in the last 6 months I am loathe to wait that long.... as at 10mm it could already have metastasized. I m on Simvastatin 10 mg daily. Don t like the effects and I started it just 6 months ago. Any ideas?

General Surgeon 's  Response
hi.

noted history of multiple gallbladder polyps. when it comes to gallbladder polyps, the number of the polyps and the risk of malignant transformation are the most important factors to consider, symptomatic or not. surgical removal (laparoscopic or open cholecystectomy) is the definitive management. it is best if you consult with a doctor, preferably a general surgeon, for physical examination and clinical evaluation. diagnostics (ultrasound, liver function tests, complete blood count) and management (medical and surgical) will be directed accordingly.

hope this helps.

good day!!
