Is Chest Pain In A Teenager A Cause For Concern?

My 13 year old daughter has chest pains. Right in between her breasts. Anti acids are not helping. She says that the pains get worse when she bends over. It is harder for her to breathe. It is difficult for her to take deep breaths. Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Chest pains in a 13 year old could be mainly caused due to muscular spasms.
She can take medications containing analgesic with muscle relaxant like Diclofenac/Ibuprofen with Chloroxazone twice a day after food for its relief. Occurrence of such problems could be further prevent by consuming diet rich in calcium, calcium supplementation in the form of tablets or syrup and doing chest expansion exercises regularly.
By above measures, she should be able to overcome the problem.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
