Is Allergex Safe During Pregnancy?

I am 37, 1.67 and 63.5kgs, no problems with medical just sleep. I need to know if allergex is safe during pregnancy (1 tablet at night) as I suffer from chronic insomnia and was told by a doctor that she took allergex. It says 1-4 tablets per day but i only take the 1 at night. I am about 5 weeks pregnant but really cant sleep through the night and wake up at 1 or 2 or 3am and cant go back to sleep. I get up to get to work at 7am therefore work 9 hours a day and need to get my sleep. Bit desperate on this. Thank you.

Hi,

Allergex contains chlorphenamine that is a non drowsy antihistamine is used for the relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis like sneezing, runny nose or rhinorrhea, itching of the nose and throat etc. It is also indicated for the relief of chronic idiopathic urticaria or hives and other allergic dermatoses or allergic skin reactions. It works by blocking H1 receptor sites on tissues. Allergex may help relieve allergy symptoms, even while someone is pregnant.

Allergex is an antihistamine with a good safety record and may be used during pregnancy at the recommended dosage after consulting your doctor first. However during pregnancy, as a general rule, the less medication used the better. Recent studies have found chlorphenamine to be safe. Although, you must always remember that no medicine is 100 percent safe during pregnancy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
