Smoking and drinking are both quite bad but for different reasons. The smoking certainly made strokes more likely. Nicotine changes blood vessel tone. The alcohol is a stomach irritant and interacts with the stroke treatment and may cause bleeding from the stomach, but does not have much effect on stroke risk.
