Is Alcohol Intake Advisable For A Person With PVCs?

I have been diagnosed with pvcs(benign) . after 5 years on flecainide and increased doses over time my symptoms are now getting worse. I ve went thru the gamut of tests that showed these were benign to begin with. I m now on 150mgs twice a day and am now finding that this is not helping lately. I have been under stress since x mas (5 funerals,) my sons wedding this weekend , and my sisters anniv. death Feb. 25, 2015. I have bad habits (tobacco and alchohol),but alcohol usually relaxes me and I m for the most part pvc free Do you recommend ablation which could be my next step? What does it entail? your response woud be so appreciated. What other newer procedures can I take other than ablation, and explain what ablation is please, and who is the bet phycisian in Omaha NB to be up on this .

Hello,

The alcohol intake damage depends upon the quantity and duration of intake over a period of time. If consumed over a long period of time for heavy doses , there is known entity of alcoholic cardiomyopathy, highly deleterious to health and life almost. However, the low level intake with occasional duration may not be that alarming. As such during intake of Flecainide, alcohol will not interfere with drug effects with moderate consumption. Ablation depends upon the foci of origin of the premature ventricular contractions and has to be decided by expert interventional cardiologist treating you.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
