Is A Single Shot Of Verorab Effective For Dog Bite?

Hi Sir. I m not sure if I was bitten (on my right hand) or lick (contact of saliva in my mouth) by my 2 month old puppy last (December 29, 2015 Tuesday) and I got treated after 2 days (thursday). I was given only one shot of verorab on my left shoulder. I m concern if it is the right medicine was given to me, as I ve read there are 3 categories of bites. Please do get back with me soon, as im feeling paranoid as the day past. Thank you sir! Lester

Hi & Welcome.
If your puppy is vaccinated against rabies and the vaccination certificate is valid then there's no need to take anti rabies vaccine.
However, since you are not sure if the bite has broken the skin or the mucous membrane has been exposed to saliva from a suspected animal,
you need to take 5 does of anti-rabies vaccine on days 0,3,7,14, & 30.
If your puppy is found to be healthy at the end of 10 days. You may stop taking the remaining doses on days 14 and 30.
However you must take the remaining doses on days 14 & 30 if your puppy shows the symptoms of rabies like biting without any provocation, eating abnormal items such as sticks, nails, stool, or running for no apparent reason or noticed a change in sound e.g. hoarse barking & growling or inability to make a sound or excessive salivation or foaming at the angles of the mouth.
You also need the local wound treatment along with a single shot of tetanus toxoid and a course of appropriate antibiotic if it is infected.
Hope this will help you.
