Is A Second Dose Of Plan B Advisable Within 24 Hours?

My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex on Friday due to having too much to drink and making a bad choice. The next morning I took plan B but then that night our condom broke and we didn t know until he had already cum inside me. Is it bad for me to take plan B again? Or do You advise me not to take it again?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Plan B contains levonorgestrel, which is progestin-only emergency contraceptive indicated for prevention of pregnancy following unprotected intercourse.
Dosage is 1 tablet (1.5 mg) per orally as soon as possible within 72 hr of unprotected coitus or 1 tablet (0.75 mg) per orally as soon as possible within 72 hr of unprotected coitus, followed by 1 tablet (0.75 mg) per orally 12 hr later.
You need not consume more than the recommended dose of 1.5mg.
Hence, since you have had intercourse within 24 hours of consuming the pill, another dose is not necessary.
You should get your periods as breakthrough bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of consuming the pill.
Kindly seek medical attention if this doesn't happen.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
