Is A Hard Part On My Prostrate, Requiring Biopsy, A Serios Issue?
I just had a visit to my urologist today for follow up regarding my BPH. He did the regular digital rectal examination and he told me that he felt a hard part on my prostate which he thinks it was abnormal. My PSA is only 2 which he said is normal. He wanted to be sure so he scheduled me for prostate biopsy next month. He believes it s not cancer. I m concern about this biopsy even though he told me it s not cancer ( I hope). If this is not alarming, why would he subject me for biopsy? Please advise what is the probability that this might be a serious matter.
There are few instances where prostate malignancy presents with normal PSA. But clinical examination is more relevant than lab data and when clinician concerns for hard prostate palpable over digital rectal examination, biopsy is mandatory to rule out any suspicious finding. Just avoiding procedure on basis of normal PSA is not advisable at all.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
