Is A Fourth Rabies Vaccination Dose Advisable?

I am 40 years old , healthy male. Sir, I am due to take the third dose of rabies vaccine today. So I went to a government hospital and took a dose. But I am not convinced with the way they inject. I did not even feel the medicine going I my body, the way I had felt while I took the previous 2 doses from a private doctor. So how about If I take another dose today itself from a private doctor.

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. Yes it is recommended to take full course for post exposure prophylaxis of rabies vacccination [after thousand of studies]

2. In Adults, site of intramuscular vaccination is deltoid area and gluteal area should not be used as it might result in diminished immunologic response [probaly government hospital might have injected in gluteal area] and dose given in gluteus should not be counted as Valid, therefore, take the next dose within 3 days and ask the attending physician/midwife to inject specifically in the deltoid area.

PS. please consult Department of health epidemiologist for advice for the recommended schedule
