Is Vetalog Contraindicated In Puppies?

Hi - Is Vetalog contraindicated in puppies? My vet gave my 6 month old pup an injection and also prednisone taper. The new vet I am seeing got very upset when he saw that pup had been given Vetalog Parenteral; especially when followed by Pred taper. Is this true? Thank you. D. Schubert

Hi,

I have read your problem.

Yes vetalog is to be avoided in puppies. Vetalog is to be given in adult dogs. It may cause sodium retention, fluid retention, potassium loss and weight gains. As with any corticosteroid, polydipsia or polyuria may occur with high dosage or frequent administration of triamcinolone acetonide.

So it is usually avoided in puppies.

I hope you have got your answer

Thanks.
