General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Both these medicines contain same drug (sodium valproate) but with different trade names and are found to be equally effective in the treatment of epilepsy (jhatka). Encorate chrono 500 is a long acting preparation that can be given once daily. Unlike Valparin 500, it causes fewer short term side effects such as nausea and vomiting. However, it is more expensive than Valparin chrono. Continue taking Encorate chrono and do not miss the dose.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
