Is Triamcinolone Acetonide A Good Substitute Of Locoid Lotion?

My dermatologist had me try a sample of Locoid Lotion, 0.1% for my scalp itch. I reported that it gave me some relief. She then sent a prescription to my mail order pharmacy. Today, I received a 60 mL bottle of Triamcinolone Acetonide Lotion, USP 0.1% from my mail order pharmacy. Are these two medicines the same? If not, should I use the medicine that I received today or send it back?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. Thanks for trusting healthcaremagic.com. I have gone through your questions and understood your concerns.

Loiod lotion contains hydrocortisone butyrate, is used for dermatitis caused by allergic reaction. It has different content with trimcinolone acetonide. But both of them have the similarity that contains steroid. They are used for allergic condition. Triamcinolone has stronger anti inflammatory steroid effect than hydrocortisone. It can be used also for your itch problem. But for certainty, you can contact your treating doctor.

I hope this can clarify your queries. If there's anything else you need to know, please let me know and we can discuss it in HCM. I hope you'll get well soon. Take care.

Regards,
dr. Asti Yuliadha
