Is Tredaptive Advisable For Split Artery In Legs?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here..
Hi I have had a kissing stent in my right groin-after op they discovered a split artery in leg and a blockage in my stomach.
I can't take statins so am just starting on Tredaptive (nicotinic acid) and have just read the
blurb on tred. It says if you have arterial bleeding
do not take this drug - my question: If I have a split artery is it therefore bleeding??

Hi there,

Hi there, I'm not sure what the blockage in your stomach is, but as a vascular surgeon I do a lot of kissing stents for iliac artery stenosis or aneurysms. I think what they mean by split artery is a dissection - this means a crack in the artery wall, but doesn't mean that it ruptured. Since you have the stents, it means that the dissection (crack) has been fixed. You should be safe to take Tredaptive, which will help preventing your vascular disease from getting worse.

I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
