Is Tizanidine Effective In The Treatment Of Backache?
Have any of your studies proven that Tizanidine could help with the after affects of shingles? I ve had burning pain in my back for five years. My neurologist did a spinal, I used a chiropractor, PRP, and even acuppuncture but to no avail. I took Gabapentin 300 mg. twice day for over three years but felt it was no longer helping. Creams and lotions soothe it but the pain remains. Any suggestions?
Tizanidine is not effective in the treatment of backache due to shingles. Tizanidine is a short-acting muscle relaxant used in the treatment of painful spasms, cramping, and tightness of the muscles caused by medical problems, such as multiple sclerosis or certain injuries to the spine.
Based on history, you seem to be suffering from post herpetic ("shingles') neuralgia. Since you did not get enough relief by using Gabapentin, kindly consult your treating doctor for other effective drugs such as Pregabalin or Carbamazepine. Your doctor might also consider certain antidepressants such as Amitriptyline or Duloxetine or Venlafaxine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
