Is Synthyroid Advisable While Having High TSH Levels?

My TSH level is 4.69, which I understand is a little hight, but the dr just called in Synthroid for me. If my level is high, why is he putting me on Synthroid? What causes a hight TSH level? Are there any natural things I can do to help this? YYYY@YYYY is my email address. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Thank you for asking the question.
Your TSH is high, that means you are suffering from hypothyroidism. In hypothyroidism thyroid hormone are less synthesised by thyroid gland. So more amount of TSH releases from pituitary gland to stimulate thyroid gland to secrete thyroid hormone.
So your TSH level is high, to decrease. TSH and increase thyroid hormone level you should start synthyroid as per doctor's advice
Hope this will helpful to you.
