Is Ropinirole The Right Medicine For Parkinson S Disease?

My husband seems to have developed venous insufficiency after taking Ropinirole for Parkinson s Disease. Should he see his neurologist, cardiologist, and or dermatologist regarding this problem? His ankles have become quiet swollen with this condition. He takes .25mg of Ropinirole 3xdaily. Please advise what he should do regarding this problem. Thank you. Sue

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Ropinirole is a dopamine agonist of the non-ergoline class of medications. It is used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and restless legs syndrome. Hence, it is the right medication what has been prescribed.

For swelling of ankles symptom, it would be better to get a clinical evaluation done by consulting Cardiologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
