Is Ranitidine Effective In The Treatment Of Acid Reflux?

i ran out of Omeprazole. I have been taking it for a number of years since being diagnosed with Barrett s. I had a reflux incident in the middle of the night. I two benadryl and a rantinidine (150). It help at the time but 4 hours later the symptoms have returned. Will the rantinidine help again? Should I run out and get some omeprazole?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Ranitidine also works well for managing gastroesophageal reflux disease. However, Omeprazole is a better choice for long-term treatment. You can safely take Ranitidine for a few days until you refill Omeprazole.

Hope I was able to help you. Please address further questions or concerns here.

Regards

Dr. Lekshmi
