Is Prilosec The Right Medicine For Acids Reflux?

My 15 year old son finds it painful to both eat and drink. While the liquid or solid is traveling down, he is in extreme discomfort. I ve taken him to both urgent care and family physician. Both diagnose him with acid reflux and he is taking 40 mg of Prylosec. He s been taking this for 5 days and I don t see any improvement. His pain is almost exclusively when he eats or drinks.

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have acid reflux symptoms. Well acid reflux problem needs to change life style of person along with medicine for proper treatment. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order endoscopy of esophagus and X-ray of upper digestive system to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe H2 blocker , proton pump inhibitor and lopramide for loose motions.

Prilosec is right medication to use along with pother preventive measures. For now your should avoid heavy and spicy meal specially at night , Eat at least one hour before going to bed , take a light walk after every meal , eat small and frequent meals and take antacid like gelusil for acidity . Also avoid alcohol, aerated products and caffeine.

You should take plenty of fluids.
