Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have my first outbreak of shingles. It started at 2a.m this morning. I was in the dr. s office by 10:30. The first thing he did was to prescribe Prednisone. Everything I ve read so far says this is not a good idea. If that is true, why do Dr.s still prescribe it?
Prednisone is not recommended for every case of shingles. It is recommended for severe cases and nowadays most of the physicians do not recommend steroids. Antiviral drugs like acyclovir will be much effective than steroids.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
