Is prednisone the right drug to take for lung inflamation? Have been through 4 rounds of Treanda chemo and developed trouble with shortness of breath looks like pneumonia but pulmonologist says it isn t I have levaquin from MD and prednisone from pulmonologist

Hello,
Thank you for using HCM. I read carefully your question. You are right ,even for doctors this issue is controversial.
Prednisone, has anti-inflammatory effects and is therefore discussed as adjunct treatment for lung inflammation, especially in critically ill patients, immunodeficiency or in patients with other concomitant diseases.
There are a lot of studies which have shown that the recovery time of this patients with lung infection , treated with prednizone +antibiotic is shorter than in those who were treated only with antibiotics.
But on the other hand, are also known the side effects of prednizone and steroids in general.
In your case , I support the combined treatment, and for sure under a strict follow up.
