Is Prednisone Effective In The Treatment Of Pleural Effusion?

I have plural effusion, started late august. D dimer increased to 4000, ca125 marker 75 I had pneumonia. Had thoracentisis, no infection..I cannot get a conclusive diagnosis. Now the dr wants me to use prednisone. I really don t want to use this since I have no idea what I have.

Well, Prednisone is effective for diseases that involve disordered immune system, so called autoimmune diseases and in this case it may be efficient if there are other causes of pleural effusion then it may not be. It would be good to send this fluid on analysis and then be sure what is going on there may be disorder in lungs, systemic diseases or some less common issues but analysis and chest ct scan would show us this better.
