Is Plan B Recommended After A Delay In Orsythia Intake After Having Unsafe Sex?

I have been taking Orsythia for a year and a half and I didn t start my new pack until two days after my last period ended. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex 48 hours after I started my new pack. Am I still protected? If not, should I buy plan B?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Orsythia is combined pill containing ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel. It needs to be taken continuously to ensure protection against pregnancy.
Since you had missed the pills and had unprotected intercouse, it would be better you take emergency contraceptive pill like Plan B within 72 hours to be on the safer side, although you might not be in the fertile period.
Once you get the breakthrough bleeding, you can continue with the regular combined pill what you have been taking.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
