Is PSA Value Of 7.9 A Cause For Concern While Having BPH?

I am 57 years of age with BPH. I have only (1) symptom, and that is slow urination in the morning. I had a PSA of 4.1 in 2015 and I had a biopsy done and it was negative. One year later (2016) I had a PSA of 7.9. I was told by my Urologist that I needed another Biopsy. I want to know if the biopsy is negative again, what other options do I have for treatment of BPH. I want to have my PSA checked more frequently like every 6 months to keep an eye on my levels, but should I be starting any new drug treatments? One more question, do you know if consuming large daily amounts of Aspartame could increase the size of my prostate? Thanks Aj

Hi thanks for contacting HCM...

If second biopsy report also negative for malignancy than you needs medical therapy for prostate enlargement ...

You might prescribed tamsulosin like alpha blocker drug (alpha 1 receptor blocker )....
It will relax bladder muscle and your symptoms will be relieved in few weeks ..

Along with that five alpha reductase inhibitor drug like finasteride(proscar) given for decreasing size of gland ...But it takes around six month for improvement.....

Take care

Hope your concern solved

Advise : surgeon consultation....
