Is PRP Treatment Effective For Chronic Plantar Facilities?

I’m a 70 year old patient considering PRP treatment for chronic Plantar Facilities. I’m hoping you are a Dr. that can answer a few questions, and can recommend a course of action. I also suffer from Thrombocytopenia (my last CBC was 90 K/uL). I read somewhere that to be a good candidate for PRP; you would need to have a platelet count 105. To your knowledge is this correct? What would you suggest in my case? I’m considering taking Prednisone for a few weeks to increase my platelet count prior to the PRP injection. Would you recommend this course of action? Or, could my podiatrist judge the platelet count and make 2 or 3 spins more than normal in the centrifuge to get a good count? What is the normal platelet count you recommend as a result from the centrifuge, 3x normal, 5x normal, or something else? Thank you for your reply, Ron Rock

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* In our clinic, I recommend a platelet count of around 1.1 -1.2 for proceeding PRP treatment.
* There are herbal prep available to raise the platelet counts rather than opting centrifuge result alterations for the same. And of course, steroid consideration has to be discussed with your treating doc only.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
