Hi.

Age, duration of pregnancy, and purpose of doing PAPP-A not mentioned. Pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) is one of the two maternal serum markers currently used for screening between 10 and 14 weeks. The level of PAPP-A increases with gestational age in normal pregnancy.

However your doctor wants to rule out certain genetic or chromosomal disorders such as Down's syndrome, Edwards' syndrome or Patau's syndrome by doing 'placenta liquid test'.The 'placenta liquid test' is considered to be safe, however, there is a risk of miscarriage or infection. The risk of complications is higher if it's carried out before the 15th week of pregnancy, that is why the test is only done after this point.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
