Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
1.can we use generic medicine ? Any side effects ? whats the difference in pattern and generic. 2.My Father is a diabetic patient - pattern (GLYCOMET TRIO 2MG TABLET - Rs 128) can i use generic medicine OZOMET VG2 TABLET -Rs 20)both the medicine are same .why the generic medicine cost is very low compared to pattern.i want to know which medicine i want to be follow.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. Glycomet Trio contains Glimepiride 2mg, Metformin 500mg and Voglibose 0.2mg. Ozomet VG2 contains same combination of Glimepiride 2mg, Metformin 500mg and Voglibose 0.2mg. Both are used to treat diabetes mellitus. Only thing is the company that manufactures and sells it is different. Generic makers don’t face the same costs as manufacturers of brand-name drugs. That’s because the brand-name maker often invented the drug by investing hundreds of millions of dollars. This is the rationale behind drug patents: they give pharmaceutical companies a period of years when only they can make money on a product in which they recover the large investment they have made. For a generic manufacturer, no such investment is required. That makes their products cheaper. When a generic drug product is approved, it has met rigorous standards established by the FDA with respect to identity, strength, quality, purity, and potency. Cheaper does not mean lower quality. Hope the information provided would be useful. All the best.
