Is Oxycodone Safe To Be Taken For Pain Relief After Removing Tonsils?

My daughter was taking generic oxycodone because she had her tonsils taken out but she started to itch badly. Now she is taking hyndrocodone, but it doesn t work for the pain. Is it dangerous for her to go back to taking oxycodone even though it makes her itch?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if Oxycodone safe to be taken for pain relief after removing tonsils which usually occur due to residual infection remain after tonsillectomy or due to trauma that occur during surgery . I would suggest you to consult ENT Specialist again as you will require thorough evaluation. You should take combination of antibiotic along with decongestants. You need anti-inflammatory medication as well. You should incorporate some lifestyle changes like avoid spicy, fried and oily food. Avoid cold beverages. Get adequate rest and do salt water gargles several times a day. Drink plenty of water to keep the throat moist and prevent dehydration. Drink Warm liquids like tea or warm water with honey.
