Is Norco Tablet The Right Medicine For Insomnia?

I ve been suffering from insomnia since undergoing rotator cuff surgery 10 weeks ago. My prescribed pain medication, Norco, does not help me sleep. Is it safe to use passion flower as a sleep aid? I suffer from high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes - all of which I take prescribed medication for. I ve also suffered from kidney stones in the past few years, through which it was determined I have one low functioning kidney. The other is healthy. Is passion flower safe for me to take?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. You have insomnia after the rotator cuff injury about 10 weeks ago. Norco is Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone. The drug is a good pain medicine and the drug can help to reduce the pain, but the drug is not a right drug for sleep. Hydrocodone is an opioid drug and the drug can cause analgesia and reduce pain, and cause sedation, but that sedation can't be utilised for sleep. As you have persistent sleep problems so you have to visit a psychiatrist for help. Passion flowers can help in sleep to some extent by resulting in relaxation but these natural substances cant cause much hypnosis needed for sleep. The flowers are safe to take and is not associated with any serious risk

Other medicines like Benzodiazepines as Clonazepam, Lorazepam, Oxazepam etc can be tried for sleep. Z-drugs are commonly used hypnotic drugs and have good results in insomnia. For pain continue to take Norco and for sleep medicines visit a psychiatrist for prescription. These drugs are also relatively safer in renal disorders.

Thanks, I hope this helps you.
