Is Nexium A Better Alternative To Somac?

I have been taking Somac for 18 months for reflux issues. I recently had an endoscopy which showed I had possible Barretts Oesophagus. My Doctor suggested taking Nexium instead. Nexium is more expensive than Somac and in the month I have been taking it, I have felt sleepier without any difference in the way my stomach has felt. Do you consider Somac an inferior medication to Somac?

Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I am Dr Rakesh Sharma answering your query.
I can understand your concern.
Both the drugs are proton pump inhibitors.
They both work on same line.
There is nothing like inferior drug. It is always the correct drug should be given.
Nexium is also used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid).
So Nexium is a PROPER drug in your case.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
