Is Naproxen The Right Medication For Fibromyalgia?

I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have been on 500 mg of Naproxen since April, but now my PCP has only given me a two month refill. I am more concerned about taking the other usual meds for fibromyalgia than the Naproxyn. Before I go to see my PCP, I would like a better understanding why she might prefer I be on more dramatic medications when Naproxen is working to control my symptoms.

Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history:
Noted you history of being suffering from fibromyalgia for a long time and your getting results with 500 mg of Naproxen. You would like to know why your PCP would like to change the medicines to more dramatic results when you are alright with Naproxen.

My thoughts and suggestions:
Fibromyagia is a chronic disorder, not a disease as such.
The commonest causes are not known for sure but it is true that the people with lots of stress and anxiety have this more often and the changes in the muscles to the fibrotic state make it difficult to have a permanent relief.
Hence there ahouls a proper clinical evaluation, examination, going deep into the history of stress and anxiety related issues, any existing medical conditions and so on.
Short course of oral steroids do help to a great extent.
Addition of an anxiolytic medication too helps a lot in eliminating such disorders.
Over time the Naproxen may not help so much if taken alone.
You will have to be tried with different medications at different times to see the results and to carry on the treatment as per the requirements.
I find this answer helpful
