Is Mupirocin Ointment Better Than The Nasal Version Prior To A Surgery?
I am having knee replacement for the second knee. My surgeon prescribed mupirocin to be used in the nostrils for 5 days before surgery for the second surgery. I noticed that the pharmacy had filled the rx with Mupirocin Ointment not the nasal version. Is it acceptable to use it again or should I get a new rx with the nasal version?
Dear patient you should read the instructions on the label of ointment. If it is not intended for internal use like nasal mucosa then you should not use it. If only clearly mentioned on the label that mupirocin ointment can be used internally then you can apply it on nostrils. otherwise you need to change prescription.
