Is Metoprolol Succinate Prescribed To Treat Migraine Headaches?

I have been taking Metoprolol succ 50 mg. tablets for hypertension and tachycardia for ten years. I read an article in the Peoples Pharmacy column of the St, Louis POST-DISPATCH recently in which the authors stated in response to a patient s question regarding the use of this drug that Metoprolol is now most commonly used to treat migraine headaches . Is this accruate information about thia drug????

The same drug served different purposes. Metoprolol can be used for migraine prophylaxis ( prevent migraine attacks).

You can safely continue metoprolol as it is very effective and widely prescribed for your condition.
