Is Macrobid Effective For Treatment Of Bladder Infection?

I went to a physician s assistant at my local family clinic today and after giving a urine sample, I was told I had a bacterial bladder infection. I was prescribed macrobid 100mg. capsules and told to take it twice daily. I am wondering if two 100 mg. capsules a day of macrobid will take care of my infection?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Urinary tract infections can involve any aspect of the urinary tract, this includes the bladder, urethra, ureter, kidneys and prostate in males. Macrobid (nitrofurantoin), can be used to treat urinary tract infections.

It is one of the initial antibiotics that can be tried, if there is no response, then your doctor may switch you to another one.A urine sample may also sent to the lab to determine the exact bacteria causing the infection and also which antibiotics would work and which would not.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
