Is Losartan Better Than Lisinopril In The Treatment Of Hypertension?

I was taking lisonpril to lower blood pressure, and I was coughing so badly I had to stop that. My doctor just prescribed losartan. Is there an advantage of losartan over Avapro/ Irbesartan?   And since so many people have bad side effects from lisonpril, why is that usually the first choice of medication?

Hi,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

No, not actually. Both of these drugs have almost similar side effects. Take Amlodipine instead. Lisinopril is the first choice because benefits supercedes side effects and side effects are not so common.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Take care.
