Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a reaction (hands itched and were red) once when the hospital gave me Levaquin intravenously. I now have a UTI and the script I picked up is for Ciprofloxacin (CIPRO EQ)250mg. After reading the supplemental sheet that was with the medicine it says Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Levofloxacin. Is that the same drug as Levaquin? If so, does this mean that I shouldn t take this medicine?
Levaquin is a brand name for Levofloxacin so yes, these two drugs have the same active ingredient in them. If you are allergic to Levofloxacin you should not take Levaquin. You should let your doctor know as soon as possible about this.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
