I had to declare bankruptcy because of the gambling problem so I changed doctors and he weaned me off the abilify over a three month period and I am a changed person I do not have any more compulsive problems . My wife told my doctor that I was very irritable now after getting off the Abilify so my doctor prescribed latuda 20mg but I am scared to take it becauseriously of a drug reaction with the prozac. What should I do . Take the latuda or or not
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Prozac contains 'fluoxetine', which is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). It is used to treat major depressive disorder, bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder), obsessive-compulsive disorder and panic disorder. Latuda contains lurasidone, which is an antipsychotic medication. It is used to treat schizophrenia in adults. There is a moderate degree of interaction between Prozac and Latuda. Using fluoxetine together with lurasidone may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion and difficulty in concentrating. You need to avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating machinery. You should completely avoid the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Kindly consult your doctor before changing intake of such medications. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
