Is Lactogen Safe For Babies?
Hello Doctor, I have a baby daughter who is now 7 months old. I have a job and so, I have to leave her with her grand mom. We don t have any option other than giving her 1-2 feeds of lactogen 2. I want to know from you, if this is safe for my baby.Thanking you..

Hi,
Nowadays we doctors do not recommend ready-made baby food. Not because it is unsafe but it cannot compete with breast milk. We recommend breastfeeding for one year.
One can collect & store expressed milk in the fridge. It can be safely used till 24 hours. It has to be warm while feeding. Use double boiler.
If you have sufficient milk use breast milk as above.
* In case you really need a supplement, you can use cow milk diluted with boiled water with 2 tablespoons per feed (can increase dilution if the baby can't digest or decrease dilution to start with undiluted cow milk, for optimal feeding to baby).
*But if nothing of these is practicable Lactogen 2 can be given
* To be prepared freshly for each feed/bottle &nipple both should be boiled each time.
-Top fed babies need boiled water feeding in-between to avoid constipation in babies.
