Is Ibuprofen The Right Medicine For Severe Headache?

I have been experiencing headaches for the last 3 years. Saw my provider yesterday explained headaches and that medications like tylenol that I have been taking are not helping. Was prescribed ibuprofen 800. Felt fine yesterday given that my headache was mild. Have taking two ibuprofens today stasting at 9. Heartache has been continuous nonstop with ringing ears. What should I do?

Hello, Thanks for the query.
For routine headaches most often recommended drug is acetaminophen 500 mg to 650 mg once or if needed more often. Ibuprofen 800mg is a good NSAID which has strong analgesic (pain reducineg) action as well as anti-inflammatory effect. But unlike acetaminophen, its usage is usually restricted. Loge term use can cause kidney related side effects. So if you decide to use ibuprofen, then take it sparingly, for a very short period.
Secondly if you have headache since last three years, it is better to get certain investigations done in consultation with your physician to ascertain the exact cause rather than just taking pain killers on a regular basis. Also get your refraction checked becaus that can be a cause for headaches. Thanks.
