I had my gallbladder removed five years ago and continue to have post-cholecystectomy syndrome symptoms. After a recent visit to the ER I was referred to a new gastroenterologist. We did a colonoscopy two weeks ago that was clear. Now they are suspecting sphincter of oddi disorder and have ordered a hida scan. But, everything I am reading about SOD says that it is commonly diagnosed via an ERCP. Everything I see about the hida scan has to do with gallbladder function- which makes no sense because mine was removed. Does a hida scan make sense? If I am currently not experiencing symptoms, is the test even worth doing?
